"I got a lot out of my time on the Uncool Artist residency. I was looking for a creative community with space for critical discourse, and that’s exactly what I found, particularly in the portfolio review sessions. The mentorship element of the residency had been a huge attraction for me as well, and I found the mentors I met with to be very thoughtful. They took time to prepare for our meetings, asked considered questions and tailored their feedback as we discussed my goals. Working with a curator towards the group show at the end of the residency was also a great learning experience for me. I left the Uncool Artist residency with more confidence in my ideas and in how to approach different elements of my artistic career. Thank you for having me!"

"The uncool residency has got me thinking even more about how community plays a role in creating longevity and vitality in our practices.
Art residencies can have such a transformative role in an artist’s career. This kind of work arrangement is exciting and instigating because it can allow us a temporary chance to delve into our own practice in a way that’s profound, while sharing a space with a multicultural cohort of artists coming from different paths of life and their practices.
Big things can happen when we are granted the privilege of spending our time just for creating art. And thinking art. And making a work that is meaningful to our communities and that releases our specific way of existing in the world. I can’t think of a better place to do so than NYC.
I came out of this residency with some work I felt really proud to show and that grew into larger projects and networks of connections."

"The UA artist residency has been an incredible experience. Having this opportunity to be back in New York spending time exploring the city while having a studio space to experiment with all the inspiration that pops up while being in an urban, creative environment has solidified my ideas and artistic desires. The programming has been a special and impactful part of the experience. The advisors are very knowledgeable and the field trips have been great. If you want to have a presence in New York I recommend it!
Stefania Urist2023 RESIDENCY
"I came to be more exposed to the art world in New York and to open up other opportunities and other ideas. It's been educational. The talks and curators that came through were enlightening and made me think about my practice and where I should go from here. They allowed me to realize that I could take this art in a different direction."
Charles Tupper2023 RESIDENCY
"I want to be a healer through my art. I use colors and interesting shapes to create art that comfort. The UA Residency is a great opportunity to meet people in NYC art world. Connections!"
Soobin Jeon2023 RESIDENCY
"My work deals with our notion of physical labor and how it marginalizes some groups of individuals. The residency has been helpful for me to focus on my research entirely and connect with other professionals in the art world."
Jinseok Choi2023 RESIDENCY
"I'm a multimedia artist interested in memories, bodies, and bathroom design. More than just a studio space, the residency has given me the opportunity to work alongside other artists and get outside my comfort zone."
Trevor Nathan2023 RESIDENCY
"The UA Residency is a great experience for me as an emerging artist. This time here allowed me to take a deeper dive into my practice while surrounded by inspiring art and artists. In addition, the time I spent in the studio this winter was invaluable as my confidence as an artist grew and my work was challenged and transformed through experimentation and feedback. Being in NYC provided space for me to explore other modalities that informed my practice and develop strong supportive relationships with other artists."
Dominique Labaki2023 RESIDENCY
"This productive routine of going to the studio six days a week has been great. It gives me time to come up with ideas and settle them down on the way here. This daily commute has been super important for me because it's part of my research on silence. So, I take various routes, walking and getting off at different subway stations while I develop my work in this search for silences."
Luiza Reginatto2023 RESIDENCY
"As an emerging artist, the UA Residency is an invaluable experience. Sharing a beautiful space with a small community of incredibly talented artists provided a constant source of inspiration. It fostered genuine relationships between residents while providing physical and mental space to grow and develop at our own pace. Personally, the most important part of this experience is having the opportunity, the encouragement and support of everyone involved."
Sarah Beilenson2023 RESIDENCY
"The work I am doing in the residency is motivated by the NYC pace and movements and influenced by how it completely changes my vision if I worked in another place. This program is an incredible opportunity to develop your work in a unique environment where you share your time and experience with other artists, which is essential for developing your work and yourself as an artist. It's a spectacular space and environment to share all those new ideas and contributions directly to your work."

“It was my first residency in this beautiful space with an intense interaction full of daily exchanges with other artists and curators with different and instrumental observations about my work. The experience was a watershed moment that changed my outlook on the way of looking at my practice.” – Thiago Boecan
“The Uncool Artist in Residency was very important for me cause I could live my work intensively! NYC is so full of references, a great place to see what’s happening and what happened. Excellent museums and galleries! I am in love with Brooklyn; I had a great time there. I am bringing with me a significant “baggage.” Thanks, Uncool Artist!” – Dani Cukierman
“The Uncool Artist in Residency was an amazing experience! It was very refreshing sharing a space with other accomplished artists and letting our ideas flow with one another. Carolina was very good at bringing in curators and other artists in the city to visit the studio so we could all discuss our journeys as artists and where the art world is today. Highly recommend this to any serious artists looking to boost their work and experience!” – Danny Starr
Uncool Artist Residency was a watershed in my work.
I got to know the visual arts scene in New York, occupy a studio in Brooklyn, and receive curators who contributed a lot with their views on my process. I visited exhibitions, museums, met artists from different countries, established exchanges and connections, and got to know and experience the city intensely. It was a period of experimentation, freedom, and growth, which till today reverberates and unfolds in other creative paths.

Uncool Artist and my participation in the ILAP community have pushed me to work on projects and ideas which have long been spinning in my head. I'm excited about the new work I am producing and the fully rounded experience of sharing my thoughts, researching, and communicating within a nurturing environment. I feel challenged and supported. I'm following the mission "just DO"!

Being part of ILAP was extremely important in my path as an emerging artist. Within Uncool Artist, I met artists from different places and different approaches and moments in their careers. The exchanges with these people continue to help me tread a place in the universe of contemporary art.
Understanding how to do an artistic project, the assembly of different categories of portfolios, and the critical monitoring offered by Uncool Artist, were things that helped me to understand how exhibition and market circuits work. Uncool Artist is an international community concerned to support its participants, always with a critical and considerate eye.
Douglas Ferreiro | Brasilia, Brazil

Uncool has been a tremendous opportunity and challenge to take my practice to the next level.
I have found a great community of artists that has allowed me to know better the creative artistic process, which is indispensable as a curator. It is an invaluable opportunity to hear from accomplished artists, curators, art fairs, and museums directors first-hand and in an intimate conversation setting.
All of this, topped with the synergy of a group of individuals working towards the common goal of being better art professionals, is what makes all the time, money, and efforts invested pay off!
Dainy Tapia | Miami, US
Testimonial Marisa Opportunities

Uncool Artist pushes me to go out of my comfort zone. It helps me understand that opportunities are out there, and I must be ready in all senses and see that I can create the chance I'm looking for. Understand the audience, be involved with the audience, storytelling, project my whole year... It is difficult to explain Uncool Artist in a few words because it is a whole new thing.
Marisa Bernotti | Dolores, Uruguay
Testimonial Rodrigo

Uncool Artist has been an inspiring space with a hands-on approach to learning (by doing) that has been instrumental in my recent realizations as an artist.
